problem in changes to resource file

hi all
I'm trying to customise  menu  in my application for which i need to modify resource file.But on building the application it returns error

           RCOMP failed with code 1
          * RCOMP failed - deleting output files
           NMAKE : fatal error U1077: 'perl' : return code '0x1'
          Stop.
Pl help very urgent

Have you closed the emulator before compiling ?
(the emulator locks the resource file even when your app is not running).
