i have a nokia 6600
love the idea of smart phones. am not entirely happy with the most popular home screen apps, handy day, active today and papyrus. all have aspects which i love but would like to modify a little to suit personal needs.(ie. the amount of lines dedicated to taks or calendar events are too little, layout has too many non essential lines separating date from task etc.................)
i have no developer experience. Can anyone suggest books to read or any easier quicker way to modify the aforementioned apps if that is at all possible or do i have to just develop my own.

many thanks

If you have the source code of the above mentioned application then you can modify and rebuild the application according to your choice. Otherwise if you dont have the source code then you need to develop your own application or you can go for the latest update of the application from their site what ever may be.

You mentioned Nokia 6600, so you can download Symbian Series 60 SDK v2.0 from http://forum.nokia.com/.
