Im going through a Symbian OS C++ book and trying to work according to that.
I have installed the 15 day trial of CodeWarrror 2.5.
I downloaded the UIQ 2.1 SDK WINSCW and started installing.
At first it showed that this is not fully tested under Windows XP. But I continued anyway.

Default location C:\Symbian
Then after 90% or so it was waiting to install JRE 1.3.1 which I cancelled because I have J2SDK 1.5 and J2ME WTK installed.
After that it was installing PERL. I cancelled however and uninstalled UIQ after which Im posting this here to know how this should be done.

1. Why isnt the UIQ SDK detecting the location of java at C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0 or C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0 ?
If I cancel the installation of JRE 1.3.1 what will I have to configure in the Sybmain folder to make it 'know' that Java is already present ?

2. For now I wont be using the CodeWarrior IDE and compiling using commanf prompt as the book has mentioned. Even though the IDE is 15 day trial will I be able to use their compiler ?

3. It seems I need GCC to compile for the target ARM machine which I wouldnt be really needing now but am learning according to the book. Will I need to install just GCC for Windows or would it be better to install the entire CygWin ?

Thanks
