For anyone who may be interested. The standard 3 network access does not allow you to browse the 'real' web, at least in Australia, here is a way around this.

If you create a new internet account (control panel, connections, internet accounts, new) named whatever but on the GPRS network, in advanced settings use server 3netaccess, with no passwords or user name.

To switch between default and this new account go to opera (web) then Browse, Disconnect. Then open page you want and connect using your new account.

In Australia you can not access 3's internal pages (services) using the 3netaccess server, but it will let you access the real world and it looks great. One last note, internet surfing from your phone is an expensive excersise, check the modem costs before you go too crazy.

Thankyou, Bloody brilliant! Very simple and it works extremely well, even in a vodafone service area, (north of Brisbane) where the 3 crappo web sites will not work.

All we need now are viewers for common office apps, pdf etc. Tried to install pdf reader just finished by a developer, but it needs a workaround the security check/digital signature.

After confirming disconnect, hit browse, then hit open page, type in url in the box, hit open, a box will appear for account name.

Instead of "default" , select the name of the account you set up (ie the 3netaccess) eg I named mine "web" when setting it up.

Then continue on and the URL you typed in should load.

On the business plan I think there is 3.8? Mb per month included data free, so be wary of your usage charges after this!

I can't believe that this isn't better advertised by 3. Northside brisbane where I am lucky to get a voice line let alone email. I can now listen to streaming audio from the web.
I was so pissed after playing with an optus zoo phone earlier today.. much happier now. Thanks for posting this. Cheezy

Just to let you guys know, I tried the settings posted here and they worked like a treat. Also I am now able to get my IMAP email account by adding a new messaging account and using the new connection as the one I connect too. There is no reason why you wouldn't be able to get a standard POP3 email account just like your three mail.
