Symbian c++ versus J2ME(Getting started with ..)

Getting started with Symbian development at

The above  great article by Eric describes very well what are the different SDK versions and for which phones they are used. One question still remains: When to use Java and for what phones it is suitable and for what kind of programs?  It looks like there are very few java questions in this forum! Is it so that java is not as popular among the developers as c++ for symbian?

Hopefully somebody will find some time to update the getting started.. article when new stuff is available  and have some words about the java issue!!
