CPU register access

This is actually two questions:

(1) Has anybody had any experience accessing a CPU register on the onboard ARM processor of a Symbian based phone?  Is this type of low-level access possible?

(2) Does anybody have any experience with accessing the internal flash port on the phone from Symbian.  I have a situation where we want to interface some hardware to this port and then access it as a serial device from an application running on Symbain.  Any advice?
