Symbian Signed adds TC Trust Center as new Certificate Authority

Platforms:

symbiansigned.pngSymbianOne has spotted that an update on the Symbian Signed Web site now shows that TC TrustCenter ASC Publisher IDs are now available for use with Symbian Signed. According to the associated PDF New Certificate Authority, this is not just an addition to the current Verisign ACS ID but a substitution. As quoted in this document :

It is very important that you do not renew your Publisher Id with Verisign because it will be no longer valid after May 2008.

I am just glad that our ACS-ID has expired and we couldn't renew it because of some problem on Verisign web site.... So, we can now get our new ACS ID from TC TrustCenter! Price is down to US$200 a year. Still not totally affordable but that is almost the half from the Verisign equivalent (was US$350). At the time of writing of this article, it does not seem possible to buy an ACS-ID yet on TC TrustCenter web site. Update: This is actually possible but the URL is not reflected on the main page yet. Funny however to see a company specialising in security requesting your credit card number using an unsecure web page (this is the case at the time of writing of this update, when we bought our ACS-ID).
