As you probably already know Frozen Bubble is a popular free puzzle game (especially in Linux platform). User controls a small canon, shooting bubbles and tries to hit other bubbles so to create groups of 3 or more bubbles of the same color. Whenever this is accomplished these bubbles go away. The purpose of the game is to eliminate all bubbles from stage. Frozen Bubble is an addicting game so I thought that it would be a nice application for Symbian mobile phones, like Nokia 6600, Nokia 3650, Nokia 7650, Siemens SX1 etc. So I decided to port it to Series 60 platform. And here it is! It's based on the Version 2.0 of the Series 60 platform but it should compile with previous SDK versions, as well. I used my Nokia 6600 to debug it on target device so I can guarantee that it works at least on Nokia 6600. However, I've seen it running on Nokia 3650 as well. It should run on most Series 60 devices. Have fun!

Nova 3D is a polygon-based 3D graphics library ("engine"), released under the LGPL licence. Its key design principles are modularity, usability and efficiency. The common object-oriented idioms and design patterns were widely used to improve the quality of the software and to ensure its maintainability. It was originally developed in 2000-2001 for intended commercial purposes but after having realized I lacked the enthusiasm to pursue a publishing deal it was left untouched until the early 2003 when the core parts were rewritten. In September 2004, it is being released under the open source licence LGPG as an Open Summer 2004 -open source programming competition entry.

OggPlay is a music player for phones running on the Symbian Operating system. OggPlay has been ported to S60 1.X, S60 2.X, P800, and Motorola A92X. OggPlay plays OGG files, and on some platforms MP3 and AAC too. OggPlay was first developped for the P800 and then released under the GPL by Leif H. Wilden. In a true open source project, OggPlay was ported to other platforms. Some features of OggPlay: + Free! + Skins (you can make your own, or use already made ones) + User defined hotkeys + Autoplay Ogg Vorbis is an audio compression format similar to mp3. However the compressed files are approximately a factor two smaller than mp3 files. To be more precise an ogg file encoded with 64kbit/sec gives approximately the same level of audio quality as a 128kbit/sec mp3 file. The package in the archive will only work on Nokia 6600, 6620 and 7610. For other phones, skins, support, and our CVS, please visit OggPlay homepage

Mobile phones and stories share a basic idea: they can travel the world. The most important aspect of mobile phones is that they can be used anywhere and any time, and many of the best stories take the reader to new and exciting places. What could be better than bringing the two together? This concept is the foundation of a new and innovative game. In the role of a detective, the player has to solve an intriguing case posed by a sinister stranger. In the course of the investigation, people in different places will need to be questioned. However, it's no longer enough to just click somewhere in the game to get from here to there - now you have to move to progress the story. You start the game in your detective bureau. Some hundred meters away you will find the virtual bar, where you are supposed to meet your informant. To unravel the web of intrigue, you'll need to take a walk yourself. Not to give too much away, but for the grand showdown you will have to return to the place where you started playing the game. Through the combination of a game and location detection, a whole new dimension of gameplay is possible. The player himself is involved in the events; the virtual world is meshed with the real world. And the best thing: it is already possible to experience it! The game "The Journey" can be downloaded for free at http://journey.schlabo.com/ and works on all Series 60 based mobile phones (e.g. Siemens SX1, Nokia 7650, 3650, 6600, N-Gage). Word has spread quickly - in the first weekend more than 2000 people gave the game a try. Many sent enthusiastic comments, for example, "The game is a revolution in games, the new milestone in the scene, and even better, it's free! And did I mention it's also good for your health?"

ECompXL is a development tool that allows you to compress applications (.app) and executables (.exe) for Symbian OS 7. Applications and executables built with ECompXL will run as any other on a target device but, when started, will first decompress themselves on-the-fly before their actual execution. ECompXL uses the standard gzip utility for compression and the zlib library for decompression; a port of zlib is part of the standard Symbian OS 7 SDK.

Were I can see all applications sended?

Soumis par Anonymous le sam, 2004-09-25 09:19.

Hmm what's that 3D engine, can it show more than a simple cube? If yes, could you provide a new maybe more complex example application which shows all the features.

Soumis par Matti (non vérifié) le mer, 2004-09-29 07:50.

The overly simple demo shipped with the platform merely displays the key functionality of the engine: the scene graph model. Fancy rendering tricks such as bump mapping, mirrors, environment / chrome mapping etc are not included yet, but are being developed/planned. For now there are only flat shaded colored polygons as well as textured ones (toggle between the cubes with the joystick button). The meaning of the SpinningCube demo is just to present the actual entry, the library API. A more visual demo will be added when I finish testing my Lightwave model importer module. Thanks for your interest!

yeah, sounds good. There has been lack of open source 3d engines so it's good that someone is doing it!
