Is the well known brand so essential for success?

Hello, I would like to discuss two applications which perform similar actions. These are Tracker from Smartphoneware and Handy Taskman from EPOCWARE (you can read their comparison at http://www.symbian-review.com/review-of-task-manager-for-series-60-3-applications.html ). Both of them are task managers. They cost the same price. But Tracker suggests much wider range of features and possibilities than Handy Taskman does. Besides being the task manager, it allows to organize the applications, notes and documents in your own way and have access to the recently opened applications. Having analyzed the downloads level of both applications on the basis of Handango data, I have come to the conclusion that the developer’s name plays the most important role foe users when they select which app to download, even if this application is not the best in its kind. What do you think regarding this topic? Do you agree? Looking forward to your opinions! Best Wishes, |

I havn't distributed any mobile applications myself, but from what I've heard (from friends doing mobile games), the number one deciding factor is visibility of the app on the download site.
That is... if its at the top, it will be downloaded.
If its not, noone will find it.
The user doesn't care about the brand, unless it is a really well known one like Nike, Coca Cola or Harry Potter...
So, its a bit of a Catch 22.
Handy has a smart strategy in that they call all their apps "Handy XXX", which makes it easy for the user to find other apps from them, if he or she liked another product they made.

Hi,
Thank you for your opinion. Most of users claim that well known brand is indeed very important for the app's success on the market.
Thanks to the user’s comment I have got to know about one more task manager application from Smartphoneware called Best TaskMan. This application can be regarded as a part of a multifunction Tracker app. I think you will enjoy reading the updated Task Manager review at http://www.symbian-review.com/review-of-task-manager-for-series-60-3-applications.html
