Qt Software (formely Trolltech) today announced the porting of Qt to S60 on Symbian OS. Qt is a powerful C++ application development framework, which makes it easy for developers to create applications once and then deploy them on any of the Windows, Mac, Linux, Windows CE, Windows Mobile and embedded Linux platforms. With the inclusion of the S60 platform, Qt developers have an additional 80 million target devices that they can support with their applications.
“Qt brings an elegant and intuitive C++ development tool to the S60 platform, improving the ability to develop richer user experiences on the platform, and making S60 on Symbian OS even more attractive for developers to target with their applications and services,” said Sebastian Nyström, Vice President of Qt Software, Nokia.
Qt for S60 is yet at the stage of an early technical preview, but a final release can be expected in Q2 2009. The version I have seen running is still a bit unstable and doesn't really offer the S60 look and feel but this later is supposed to be available soon. Anyway, that is a good news to see a true multi-platform framework available on top of Symbian platform. Furthermore, Qt being a C/C++ environment, it will be possible to use Symbian native APIs in a Qt application. Qt for S60 is available for download from
Qt Software current website and will work with S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1 and later releases.
thats great.
Qt is nice
That dual licensing is a bit messy though...
Great for GPL projects, but very expensive to even consider doing commercial apps in...
hope for the final release
