This is a short "How To" for connecting a Nokia 3650/7650 to a desktop PC using a Bluetooth USB adapter. My adapter is a D-Link DBT-120.
It comes with Widcomm software that is also often bundled with others adapters.
Installing the drivers
This step is quite straightforward and won't be described here. Just remember to do the installation before connecting the adapter to your PC.
Once you have finished with it, you should have a small bluetooth icon added to your taskbar:
The Bluetooth configuration
Right click on the taskbar icon to start the bluetooth configuration wizard:
You can leave all the boxes checked and go to the next step. This second screen shows the version of the Widcom software you are installing (at the time of writing of this article, the latest version is 1.4.1 build 6). And, first important information, the name that will identify your computer for other bluetooth device. Patator is my computer name:
On the next screen, you have to selects the profile you want to use. Checking a box at this step does not mean that it will work since your phone may not support all them.
Some important profiles you should install:
Serial Port: this is required if you want to use PC-Suite software or do some socket stuff between your mobile and your PC
File Transfer: to use the right-click contextual menu to send file from your PC to your mobile
PIM Item Transfer: is used by some Symbian applications to send files to your PC
Select the Configure button of the Bluetooth Serial Port profile. This will popup a window that will present the default COM port configuration the software has selected:
You can use the default setting or change it according to your needs. The only requirement is to remember the selected COM port (you will also be able to change this setting later).
Validate and go to the next step:
Select Skip. That's it. You have finished configuring your adapter:
You still cannot establish a connection between your PC and your device. A second operation is needed: pairing the two devices together.
Dear Eric,
Thank you for this article, but there is one important thing to mention about bluetooth and the 7650: There are known difficulties getting them to work together even if the two devices are correctly paired ("Nokia Cellular Telephones Do Not Work Properly with Bluetooth Transceiver").

I'm trying to use PC suite 4.88 with my Nokia 6310i trough the DBT 120 The Bluethoot connexion seems to work fine but PC Suite is totaly unable to see any connexion whatever I try Is it definitively impossible ?

This was the last chance for me to make PC Suite working with my DLink DBT 120 adapter. My problem is that the Bluetooth connexion dialog between the 6310 and the DBT 120 seems to work. But PC Suite does not see the phone The bluetooth com in Local service (com4) is not the same as in Client APP (Com5) But I can't see an mrouter icon in the systray.
I think that I will forget bluetooth and try to find an USB cable to connect my 6310 (NOT EASY TOO)
I have exactly the same problem - the Nokia Connection manager refuses to see the phone, either via the serial connection, or via the Bluetooth connection. Via the serial connection, there are a grand total of 327 bytes sent (from the PC) and 397 bytes received, and then all communication stops (but the link still holds). Connection Manager does not report the fact that the 6310i is connected.
If I try it via Bluetooth, then a link is established briefly with the phone, and then it drops after about a second. This is before and after applying the registry fix given in the Microsoft Knowledge base article 811235.
BTW, I tried the TDK Mobile application - and that works perfectly with the Bluetooth serial port. All of which tends to make me think that the Nokia software is a pile of crap.
I have slightly different problem as I am still at pains to get my the software to recognise the dongle is there. Software is installed and used autodetect for hardware to match up with drivers
Any ideas? Starting to get a little frustrated.... grrrr :)
I have a quite annoying problem here concerning this topic. During the installation, I cannot choose any desired COM port. The only alternative is COM 12 and this does not meet the Series 60 emulator which allows only 1-9. I posted this problem in the forum earlier today.
Any suggestions?
