Apple iPhone finally announced.

It has been a rumour for years and it is now official: Apple iPhone is finally here and it looks like an innovative device with great look and UI : the minimum you can expect from a company like Apple!

Tech spec are also in the top notch:
-  3.5-inch 480 x 320 touchscreen display (with multi-touch support)
-  4 or 8 GB internal flash storage
-  Quadband GSM, Wifi b/g and Edge support (no 3G.....)
-  Bluetooth 2.0 with Enhanced Data Rate.
-  Mac OS X based.
-  integrated accelerometer (it detects when you rotate the device and adapt the UI accordingly)
-  115 x 61 x 11.6 millimeter

Availability is announced for June in the US, end of the year in Europe and 2008 in Asia. Retail price is 499US$ with a two-year contract for the 4GB version and 599US$ for the 8GB.

No, it is based on a tailored version of MacOS X - so it is Unix (BSD) based. Regarding developers, it looks like it will be a closed device. Might be possible to add widgets but probably not full native applications.

Closed ... That's why I'll never buy one and prefer a symbian or another "open" system.

Hi

Does any one here thinks that launch of iPhone can be a threats to the Symbian market. I personally feel it will have some effect, eventhough it might be a closed device, but the brand value is quite high and device looks really good. So if i go in the market to look for a new phone i surely will have a look on the iPhone besides N series from nokia. Wat do experts say....
