Nokia today announced that it has completed its offer to acquire Symbian Limited. All
conditions to Nokia’s offer to acquire Symbian Limited have been satisfied and it has received valid acceptance
of greater than 99.9% of the total Symbian shares that Nokia did not already own.

nok_i_a.png Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Motorola and NTT DOCOMO announced today their intent to unite Symbian OS™, S60, UIQ and MOAP(S) to create one open mobile software platform. Together with AT&T, LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics, STMicroelectronics, Texas Instruments and Vodafone they plan to establish the Symbian Foundation to extend the appeal of this unified software platform. Membership of this non-profit Foundation will be open to all organizations. This initiative is supported by current shareholders and management of Symbian Limited, who have been actively involved in its development. Plans for the Foundation have already received wide support from other industry leaders.

Symbian Limited today announced that over 30 million phones based on Symbian OS have shipped in Japan up until the end of November 2007. Symbian’s market share of the NTT DoCoMo FOMA market grew in one year from 50% to 65% at the end of H1 2007.

The SQLite Consortium, a new membership association dedicated to maintaining SQLite as a fully open and independent product, was formally announced today. Mozilla and Symbian Ltd. have joined the SQLite Consortium as charter members. SQLite is a compact, high efficiency, high reliability, embeddable SQL database engine. The source code to SQLite is in the public domain and is available with no associated fees.

Symbian Ltd has today announced some further details on the evolution of the Symbian Signed program that are to be deployed later this year. The major breakthrough is the introduction the Express Signed scheme which allows commercial developers to self-sign their application.
