The Eclipse Foundation today announced Pulsar, a new industry initiative to define and create a standard mobile application development tools platform. The initiative is led by Motorola, Nokia and Genuitec. Participating members also include IBM, RIM and Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications.

Sony Ericsson Developer World today announced their continued investment in the innovative bridging technology, Project Capuchin, which was announced in April 2008 and which will enable developers to bridge Flash Lite and Java ME for the first time. The Project Capuchin Software Developer Kit (SDK), a set of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), a packaging tool and getting-started tutorials, is now available to developers around the world to download for free at the Sony Ericsson Developer World website .

Sony Ericsson Developer World today announced the release of the Sony Ericsson Beta Software Development Kit (SDK) for Windows Mobile 6.1, a set of tools, plug-ins and documentation that allows developers to build and test XPERIA Panels and applications for Windows Mobile 6.1 to be used on the XPERIA X1 phone, the innovative multimedia phone announced earlier this year that combines Windows Mobile 6.1 software with Sony Ericsson’s unique XPERIA Panel user interface.

xperia-small.jpg Sony Ericsson has just announced in Barcelona its first Windows Mobile powered device: XPeria X1. The deviceis one of the sexiest Winddos powered device so far and the combination of the full qwerty keyboard and touch panel interface makes it a lot more usable than some competitors like LG KS20.

I'm a big fan of Simon Judge's blog, Mobile Phone Development, and I read his article about Q3/2007 Smartphone Market Share with great interest. I agree with his findings, however, I would add my own thoughts to it, too.

Sony Ericsson and Motorola, Inc. announced a definitive agreement under which Motorola will acquire a 50% interest in UI Holdings BV, the parent company of UIQ Technology AB, which is currently wholly owned by Sony Ericsson. Under the agreement, Motorola and Sony Ericsson will work together and jointly invest in the development of the UIQ open user interface platform.
