The Eclipse Foundation today announced Pulsar, a new industry initiative to define and create a standard mobile application development tools platform. The initiative is led by Motorola, Nokia and Genuitec. Participating members also include IBM, RIM and Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications.

Sony Ericsson today announced that it is joining the Eclipse community as Add-in Provider Member. By becoming an Add-in Provider, Sony Ericsson aims to contribute to the Eclipse ecosystem through creating Eclipse plug-ins of benefit to the global mobile application developer community.

At The Smartphone Show today, Symbian Limited announced that it has joined the Eclipse Foundation as an Add-In Provider. Symbian is contributing substantial development work, as well as adding its experience and expertise, to the global, community-owned Open Source project.

The Eclipse Foundation announced that IBM, Motorola and Nokia have proposed a new Eclipse Technology project, called the Embedded Rich Client Platform (eRCP). The proposed eRCP project will create several subgroups to investigate the suitability of using various components of the Eclipse RCP in a variety of embedded devices, such as mobile phones and PDAs.

This article describes the plug-in for the Eclipse IDE that I've written which allows to write Symbian programs under Eclipse. It's quite simple (the lack of debugger is probably it's biggest drawback) but definitely nicer than running ABLD commands from the command prompt.
