As far as starting development is concerned, there are quite a few 'Getting started' guides, documents, screencasts,etc available on NewLC and Forum Nokia.

There are number of example codes in the SDK, NewLC, forum Nokia Wiki, etc which should serve you as a guide to accomplish your tasks.

As typical with any programming language after you have done your installations, start with the HelloWorld!!

Dear raven_mk3_18, it is somewhat funny that you worry about search engines finding your query for serials here. I would worry about the many professional developers reading this forum that all want to develop Symbian software for earning some money, and not software for people like you who seem to want software for free.

may be you can look into a new tool GoDB --which is more simillar like VB in programming...you can check that out in this site www.go-db.com

they have a lite edition for symbian series 60 development altogether.. you can download the same from here:

exactly my predicament. I dont know where to start. MobileVB sounded like a good way to go, and i had seen someone post regarding a bluetooth chat program in MobileVB. It definite that i want to develop it for a series 60 but if not MobileVB what will i use. Appforge provides mobileVB as part of their crossfire package, and as far as i knew, this was the only way to code for symbian using a microsoft language.

If you really want to program your application in MobileVB, and my knowledge about that product is correct, it seems to me that this project will be around 90% about Visual Basic and only 10% about Symbian.

So maybe take a PC, install and learn Visual Basic there, program most of the application on the PC, and only towards the end move to the phone? And of course for starting, seek help among Visual Basic programmers?

Or modify your project, drop MobileVB (Isn't this a "dead" product anyway? And are you sure about support of Bluetooth in MobileVB on Symbian devices?) and implement the whole thing as a true Symbian application.

May be you can check out GoDB -- it uses a language similar to visual basic (most syntax are similar). But check whether they support all the series 80 devices (atleast the one you are trying to develop)..

they have an inbuilt xml parser which will be useful to you...

I have not seen any earlier MVB versions but with the version that comes with Crossfire 5.1 you can include the booster in your distribution (.sis) file. It then gets installed along with your application.
