after i download and installed the software updater here. i tried updating my phone, but for some reasons i dont really know, my phone suddenly switched off then i heard tone from my pc, after that i checked the software updater and it said that "CONNECTION TO PHONE LOST.. and the there are steps to follow to correct it.. i think!!..
the first step was to remove and reinstall my phone battery.. and i did..
while the second step i was told to switch my phone on and dont forget to connect my phone to my pc and choose PC Suit.. after i hit the power botton the nokia logo appears then the lights blacked out then suddenly it was like my phone is rebooting by it self.. now i dont know what to do.. because everytime i connect my phone to my pc, PC suit doesnt recognice my phone.. hope someone will help...
Re: Symbian development - An alternative to embedding applicatio

Well,

Every system has advantages as well as disadvantages. It's not surprising to me to see features supported in one platform and unsupported in another. Windows has its own design flaws that have been addressed in EPOC/Symbian from the very beginning. And vice versa.

This is sad. Seriously sad...

I think even Windows 3.0 had the capability for embedding applications and OLE made its way as far as NT 3.5. The fact that Symbian developers debating and writing articles on problems that have been solved in my dad's time is even painful to watch

Re: Another hack for Symbian Platform Security

Pretty natural, I would say. The recent troubles with Symbian Signed, impossible-to-get developer certificates, etc., must have gotten the attention of some hackers, because suddenly there is a little fame to win for the one who cracks Platform Security where before there was only a vast plain of boring-ness, uninteresting for the average hackers, and they played elsewhere, e.g. hacking the iPhone again and again after each firmware update.

I have seen things where a hacker modified the kernel of one of his Linux smartphones and emulated some ARM commands that his older CPU does not implement but that Android needs, just to be able to run said Android on his device. Attract people like this to Symbian PlatSec, and it won't hold long.

A superb method to catch the eye. I very much agree to Numpty's comments above, It is simply ridiculous article in symbian freak about saying a good bye to s60.

Anyways, Symbian platform security is a superb way to keep our phone secure unless the user wants to destroy it himself.

The title of that posting is totally ridiculous.

Surely the point of platform security is to protect an unsuspecting phone user from malicious software. If the owner of the phone is able, via a convoluted process to be able to make their own phone less secure, then to me that is not a hole in platform security.

And.. the smart developer develops for whatever phone system that sells at the moment, and doesn't lock himself to one system...
Right now it is still quite easy to decide what smartphone system to put the most focus on though.
Check the numbers for symbian phones vs windows mobile and linux...

But of course, never forget to keep your eye on the horizon....

But all this "this system is better then that" is mostly amusing for anyone with some insight in the business...

Hi, Eric! "name just one good ... Linux" It is bored. I think you are clever enough to google it. But if you wish, look at this wiki.xda-developers.com for example. I am not going to compare symbian and microsoft phones. I just remember words from one user. After inserting 2 Gb card, phones are freezing for time. User said that it is faster and cheaper to use P535 with 4Gb card. For me, symbian is not the best, and now sertificates do not let programmers to do it better.
I think it will be like Sun Microsystems and solaris. After losing everything, they will open symbian, but it will be too late.
By the way, I was a symbian developer for 3 years(3650(my own old phone),6600,P800,6630...). I remember a lot of bugs and disadvantages of symbian. I used your site too, it was very usful. But now I stop any symbian development and begin to learn windows and linux mobile. You can do what ever you want, remove my comment for example. It is up to you.

Can you name just one good and reliable smartphone running Linux ? (not a feature phone running java apps only, not a developer preview model, just a smartphone for average user).

And considering that Windows Mobile is fast compared to Symbian OS is probably just a joke (Or we never used the same phone - but I admit that I don't know the P535 - which can be fast it has a 520MHz processor in it....).

Yep, you're right! Having read your comment I think I'll forget all those joyful years that I've spent with Symbian development and change to other better operational (sic!) systems. Damn, why does such an idiot comment an article that doesn't even know what he's talking about?

Hi! To my mind you need not to hack symbian. Just throw away this slow and stupid operational system and buy linux or windows communicator, like ASUS P535 etc.
