Followup: NOKIA SUCKS.

We just received the repair cost from Nokia for the second NGage we sent to have repaired -- They want $224 to repair it.

All it needs is a reflash, but because it's out of warranty (the original NGage only has a 3 month warranty), they won't even reflash it for less than DOUBLE the cost of a new one.

Electronics Boutique and other stores are now selling the NGage-QD for $99.99 -- HALF the cost that Nokia wants to repair the NGage.

And, NO, they wouldn't offer a used NGage as a replacement, and they wouldn't offer a QD either.

They ONLY choice they offered was to pay $224 to repair the unit, or ship it back still broken.

This the Nokia "disservice" that we've come to know and expect.

Summary: NOKIA SUCKS.

Yep. I wrote it for the other guy.

If you get a DCT4 (Flasher) box, you'll also need the firmware and a bunch of other stuff -- the unit doesn't come with all the files you'll burn to the device.

Quite a HUGE pain, huh?

We've had 2 different NGages go bad -- both were original and had the older 3.42 firmware (IIRC).

The newer firmware (4.03 IIRC) doesn't seem to have the problem ... at least not yet...

Then again, the last one that went bad was fine for maybe 6 mos. or so and then just suddenly died -- First it seemed to freeze for a few seconds, then a "system error" dialog box. Same error when exitting Message and trying to launch anything else -- so we rebooted. After rebooting, it never started again -- white screen, nokia logo, reset, repeat twice, then shut down.

It was pretty much the exact same thing with the other one as well. The only solution was to send them to Nokia -- Quite surprisingly, they were VERY quickly reflashed, and returned back with the updated firmware (which we didn't even know about).

Nokia's customer service (at least that particular experience) was excellent infact -- not at all what we expected, which is sad all its own.

Our fingers are crossed that the new firmware does infact fix whatever problem causes it to fail to boot... but I guess we'll find out in a few more months!

using my brain I just was thinking and thinking and trying to remember and testing several configurations of codes let's say it was some kind of brute-force algorithm but without using any symbian api

BTW, how did you managed to recover your lock code without any help from service center?

right... this is nokia n-gage. anyway this will not help so much, my filesystem is broken anyway, I have to reformat C: ... but *#7370# seems to don't work.

You forgot to mention what kind of phone you're speaking of but on the Nokia 6600 (and, probably, on related models) you can turn on the phone while holding the Green, the * and the 3 keys. Make sure you have plenty of power, or better yet, have the phone plugged in.
