I found a way to download the GDB source since the http link didn't work.
The symbian website says:

The gcc.539.src.zip (41.57Mb) and the GDB source level debugger (18Mb) are both available via FTP:

According to the readme Cygnus GNUPro 98r2 is recomended. I'm not quite sure what this is and it doesn't seem to be free and I'm not wanting to download and install this toolchain anyway so,
I'm going to try Borland BuilderX instead of GDB. (I don't like the CodeWarrior IDE anyway.) I'll tell you how it works out.

Does anyone know if there is a prebuilt version of GDB for Symbian anywhere though?

You can try Borland Builder X for on target debugging its simplified to a great extent.

You need to upgrade to the Professional version of CodeWarrior for Symbian OS.
