it worked for me

i installed the eclipse platform 3.3.0 with cdt 4.0.1 and after i unzip the plugin i didn't find it

after seeing your post

i deleted /configuration/org.eclipse.orgi/.bundledata & /configuration/org.eclipse.osgi/ and i restarted
it worked
the other file was not present

Hi,

This might be a very basic question to ask, but I could not locate the Win32 compiler on my machine. I have the following configurations:
. WindowsXP for development
. S60_3rd_FP1_2 SDK
. Installed Eclipse and CDT4.0 plugins

Now, the problem is that the CDT plugins have not detected win32 compiler when I started Eclipse. So, I need to add the win32 compiler path manually.

I would appreciate if somebody can tell me the normal location of win32 compiler on windowsXP.

I unpacked plugins folder into my eclipse folder, but I can't see any "symbian" item in WINDOWS\PREFERENCES menu . Why? What else should I configure?

I don't know. That shouldn't happen. You may try to run the Command Prompt from Project > Symbian command prompt and check if the build directory is added also then...

I can't get it to work save my life. When building it keeps adding EPOCROOT\BUILD to the file paths thus messing everything up.

C:\WINNT\system32\cmd.exe /c abld clean wins urel make -r -f "\SymbianSDK\EPOC32\BUILD\SYMBIANSDK\SOURCE\GROUP\WINS.make" CLEAN CFG=UREL VERBOSE=-s

"\SymbianSDK\EPOC32\BUILD" shouldn't be there

Tried both 0.5.2 and 0.5.97 with SymbianSDK and Visual C++ nicely autodetected and it keeps doing this stupid thing.

The current version doesn't have a SIS tool. You have to compile the program for the target by typing "abld build armi urel" and then use SIS Builder or makesis.exe to build the SIS file. A *.pkg file for makesis.exe is created by the template (although it may require some tuning. The *.pkg created by version 0.5.97 is a bit better). To start a command prompt in the right directory and the the correct environment set choose a project file in the tree on the left and choose Project > Symbian Command Prompt

Thanks a lot for this great plugin. Everything compiles/works smoothly. I just have a question though. How can we build a .sis file using Eclipse? Is there an option for doing this? I tried exporting and even checked the project's folder to see if the .sis file was there but nothing. Thanks

I have installed the latest version of the Eclipse 3.1.2.

I copied the CDT files onto that to get support for the creation of C and C++ projects.

Then I copied the Symbian plugin files onto the plugin directory. I could see Symbian options in the preferences as well as in the projects.

If I select new->Projects->C++->Symbian

I get a blank window and I will not be able to enter even the project name so I cannot proceed. I installed the JRE secified above, still no result. Please help on the same.

A new prerelease version is available. In version 0.5.97 the MMP editor is nearly finished and some nasty bugs were fixed.

I wasn't brave enough to try that new version yet so instead I downloaded the S60_2nd_FP2 SDK. That works without any problems so thanks for your help. If I get time I'll try getting the S60_3rd SDK to work and report back here. Thanks again for you're help.

I haven't tested the plug-in with S60 3.0. In the older versions the CW version was for CodeWarrior. The Microsoft version was needed to work with VC++ Toolkit. It was released some time after the CW version.

You could try to download the MWCC - the CodeWarrior compiler - as described in http://www.newlc.com/article.php3?id_article=914 and use it with Eclipse. But that's also something I haven't tried.

Thanks for the tip but I still can't get it to work. The Symbian release I have is the s60_3rd and it has three targets. Armv5, winc/urel and winscw/udeb. Of the two windows targets only winscw (code warrior?) has an epoc.exe. The plugin always seems to look for a wins directory though. As a long shot I tried renaming both the win and winscw directories to wins and changing the project setting to urel and udeb as you suggested but with no success.

Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Maybe I should try finding and installing an earlier version of the symbian SDK?

This article describes the plug-in for the Eclipse IDE that I've written which allows to write Symbian programs under Eclipse. It's quite simple (the lack of debugger is probably it's biggest drawback) but definitely nicer than running ABLD commands from the command prompt.
