Try to contact the author of the program and get the source file(s) with the resource definitions, i.e. the .rss and .hrh files.

In parallel, learn Symbian programming specifics, especially the resource definition and generation part, so that once you hold the source files, you know what's what and can start the actual translation. Download and install an SDK of the right S60 release for your target phone for compiling the translated resources.

In my humble opinion, of course.

Learning Symbian specifics and getting an SDK to work will also be necessary for the case that you are not able to get source, but I say again: In that case you will have an ugly and time-consuming job on your hand where probably nobody will be able or willing to help with the actual reverse-engineering. I quote the forum master on this (see earlier post):

Other possibilities would be to reverse-engineer the resource file but that couldn't be discussed here.

Perhaps you may re-read my post. I don't doubt that you know C++ quite enough, but that's not the question. Your work of translating that program needs specific knowledge about *Symbian* programming.

And when I say forget the whole thing if you cannot obtain source, again, I don't doubt your abilities at all, but in my opinion reverse-engineering resource definitions from a binary Symbian resource file would just take too much time to be worth it - unless, of course, translating that program is *very* important and critical and any amount of work is acceptable.

You probably won't succeed until you learn the basics of programming for Symbian yourself. Without you understanding at least the basics people here will not be able to "guide" you. So, if you are really serious about translating that program, best to put the translating away for the moment and start to learn about programming for Symbian, at the very least the part that deals with producing resource files.

I would say the following: If you can get the developper of the program to cooperate with you, and you can obtain the source .rss files that contain the definitions/descriptions of the resources, your job will not be easy, but doable.

If the developper will not help you, and you don't get any source, and therefore you would need to somehow de-compile the resource file first, I propose to forget the whole thing.

By the way, you are in the right place here and the things said so far useful for you *only* if the program in question really is a native Symbian program written in C++, and not a Java program or even something else still. Sure about that C++ part?

Ask for the source of the resource file to the developer then translate it and recompile the whole application.

Other possibilities would be to reverse-engineer the resource file but that couldn't be discussed here.

You don't need to post the same question 3 times. Once is quite enough.

First question: Do you have the original source code for the program, or at least its resource files?
