Note, that in earlier messages the level of the join SetOpt was KSolInetIp, later there is KSolInetUdp.

Make sure you are using the correct level KSolInetIp(?).

Symbian doc is not very good in this, "insock.h" might give better idea.

Well now i can call RConnection.Start successfully using the IMPORT_C TInt Start(TConnPref &aPref); overload... but still enabling socking to add into muticast group is still an prob...

Any suggestions....?

Thanks.

Hi anurag,

Could you please post the detailed solution? I am also facing the same prob. Mine objective is to have the socket with muticast option set.
From the prev posts, it looks like before achieveing that
- I need to start a RConnection and use that to create an UDP socket.
But when i try to call RConnection::Start. I get err -1.....

- Also while trying to set teh muticast option <Without using RConnection> I get error -5 same as you guys mentioned...

- Do i need to change the network configs too?

Thanks a lot

Hey

I managed to make this work with Muralidharvvk's help. I'll post the detailed solution soon.

Thanks for your reply

I've written the orginal post long time ago, so I can't recall what the problem might be, but I'll give it a try anyway. And sadly, stack dump does not tell me much.

(Assuming you have followed all instrucitons, of course).

Are you choosing the access point with DHCP and do you have DHCP server running on your network? I vaguely recall having problems using an access point with a static IP address.

Also, it may be relevant where it is running due to the way WinPcap works, I have had DHCP server on a separate computer (i.e. my workstation was not the DHCP server). It also makes easier to see with Ethereal if DCHP requests and replies are actually happening (Windows does not allow capturing packets sent on loopback address for some reason).

Hi

I am having a nightmarish time here configuring symbian tcp/ip stack instead of winsock for emulator. I am on s60_3rd 9.1. I did everything mentioned in this post. I am getting a prompt for ethernet IAP entry when I run httpclienexample. But, when I select the new interface .. boom..the app crashes. Following is the link to my stack dump.

http://cl1p.net/stackDump/

I would highly appreciate some help here.

Rgds

Alright then, I thought Symbian's document on Ethernet configuration was pretty clear. Turns out it wasn't.

Yeah i agree but.. Thats the full details of the ced.cfg file are kept..
That's y copyed again and kept..

So, That the folks can directly use them..

Thats a lot for ur help regarding that sysctl.

Hello folks,

By default the emultor will use Winsock which will use braindead windiws TCP/IP stack to get the multicast support for your symabian Emulator yor need to bypass the default WInsock asn point out to Symbian TCP/IP stack.

The steps are her followed in this link which will configure your emulator for symbian TCP/IP stack..

Step-by-step Solution
Following this, I was able to configure fully functional networking in one instance of the emulator (including unicast and multicast UDP!).

    * Install WinPcap 3 or later (I have 3.1)
    * Dump the comms database into a plain text file: run ceddump from eshell, the output file is .\Epoc32\winscw\c\cedout.cfg.
    * Edit the file as described in Symbian's document on Ethernet configuration. Though, I've got a bit different settings for LanBearer and LanSerivce to get a working configuration, in particular:

Quote

##
[Network]
ADD_SECTION
# COMMDB_ID = 1
Name=Intranet<br need (I wasted several hours before figuring out that all HTTP connections attemt to connect via eprx00.nokia.com, God knows how it got there), and finally kill all Winsock entries.
    * Rename cedout.cfg into ced.cfg
    * Compile the database back (run ced from eshell). A ced.log file should appear in the same directory and the last line should say "SUCCESS".

Now comes the manipulation with ESOCK config files, without it nothihg works, as new commdb LanBearer entry points to ethernet driver, but *.esk files still have Winsock-related entries.

    * Locate 2 ip.tcpip.esk files in your SDK installation: one in (1) \Epoc32\winscw\c\private\101f7989\esock (the one that refers to winsock.prt in its every entry), another in (2) \Epoc32\Data\z\private\101f7989\esock (the proper one, references tcpip6.prt).
    * Replace: (1) with (2).
    * Edit copied ip.tcpip.esk file. Under [interfaces] section, put another line "ethint= ethint.nif" (according to IfName in LanBearer table section of our Ethernet entry). Note: space after "=" is important!
    * Put configuration info for ehternet driver into \Epoc32\Data\epoc.ini:

Quote

ETHER_NIF=\Device\NPF_{90230DF5-B692-411E-9868-038105B45530}
ETHER_MAC=026761EDF0CB
ETHER_SPEED=100Mbps

      Normally, configchange.pl from Epoc32\tools does it for you, but since netcards.exe in this SDK is terribly broken, you could do it manually, by running net config rdr (that's what uiqenv.pl script in UIQ3 does). It will give both MAC and NIF for all cards. Replace first "00" in MAC to "02".

You are surely not using any of those, like winsock.prt? Multicast join works only with the real Symbian TCP/IP stack.

Well, I haven't "modified" sdk. All the libraries that I'm using came with the SDK. I have linked insock.lib and esock.lib librarys and included <es_sock.h> and <in_sock.h>.

So how can I get real symbian TCP/IP stack?
