SonyEricsson P900 officially announced

Sony Ericsson yesterday unveiled the long-anticipated P900 wireless handheld. The P900 is smaller, faster, simpler and more flexible than its predecessor, the P800. It has all the P800's features: Tri-Band GSM, GPRS, HSCSD, Memory Stick Duo slot, Bluetooth, IrDA, and USB connectivity, Integrated Digital Camera, Video and Audio Players, Image and Sound Personalization, MMS, Combined Web and WAP 2.0 browser, plus PC and remote synchronization (SyncML).

In addition, the P900 provides many new features: Large TFT touch screen with 65K colors, electric keys, T9TM and multi-tap, flip-closed text entry, video clip recording, MP3 player application, more user memory (up to 16 MB), MMS with video clips, easy personalization of appearance and tones using Themes, and more.

The P900 supports the Symbian OS V7.0 platform, based on the user interface version UIQ 2.1.

The Sony Ericsson P900 is programmable in C++, pJava, J2METM (CLDC/MIDP 2.0), VB and .NET. With C++ and Java (via JNI), many features of the P900 are accessible to the programmer. Some examples are: access to contact lists and multi-media content, Bluetooth, infrared, USB, and PC connectivity, messaging through SMS, EMS, MMS, and email, and support for HTTP and UDP datagram connections.

P900 adds new features for the developer, including control of video capture and playback, a subset of Java phone capabilities, MIDP 2.0 features such as improved security, third-party application auto start, a more accurate emulation tool, and the ability to customize themes.

With VB and .NET support, the P900 is also available to the large number of enterprise developers who program in Microsoft languages.

The mobile will be available starting October, 27th. Registered developers can buy a SIM-free P900 from SE for 650$.
