Open Summer '04: The winners
Today is the last day of the OpenSummer'04 developer contest. The choice for a winner was really hard to make as several top quality applications entered the contest.
The winner is...

The Journey is the world's first location based mobile adventure game. With its innovative concept, it combines the movement of the player in the real world with places of a virtual detective story. When the game is started in your own room, this place will be known to the game as your very own detective bureau. Later on, it will always be recognized by your mobile phone. When the investigation in the dangerous case requires your character in the story to move somewhere else, you yourself have to walk to discover new places and locations.
The application is a good mix between simplicity and innovation. The game is a little bit short but try it: this is something you have probably never seen on your mobile phone. The code is very interesting to study for a beginner to medium experienced developer and has been well documented by Andreas.
Andreas wins a P900 Metrowerks developer suitcase (let's hope that he will port his app on this platform now!) and the four latest books published by Symbian Press. All this was offered by Symbian.
Runner-ups
We especially like two more applications (actually a little bit more but had to elect only two :-( ).
The second and third prizes comes to

Puzzle Bobble is an addictive arcade game with really nice graphics. The source code is not as well documented as the one of the Journey but you will be able to easily understand how the game itself is structured. And that is a good starting point for your own development.
Nova3D is a 3D engine. The demo provided to the contest is only a spining cube but the engine can do much more...
Matti and Elias will win a copy of the Symbian OS Explained book offered by Symbian as well as a license for Borland C++BuilderX offered by Nokia.
The finalists
Other finalists also includes top quality applications (just take a look at OggPlay, EDoom, EChess, ECompXL,... if you are not convinced!). Their author wins a copy of Borland C++BuilderX offered by Nokia.
And see you next summer for those who could not finished their application on time....
