Platforms:

To complement Symbian OS v7.0s (announced at Exposium03), Nokia has revved up Series 60 to v2.0. Series 60 Platform 0.9/1.x is built on Symbian OS v6.1, while Series 60 Platform 2.0 is built on Symbian OS v7.0s. The most significant changes in Series 60 Platform 2.0 include:
-  ECom plug-in architecture

-  new transport framework with a HTTP 1.0/1.1 client stack. The framework propose an unified API to use HTTP and WSP protocols.

-  dual IPv4 / IPv6 stack. This has no impact on the APIs

-  a new Multimedia Framework (MMF)that will replace the existing Media Server. This MMF will offer the following features:

  • an audio framework with support playback, recording, streaming and conversion. The codecs supported are WAV, AU, RAW, PCM, a-Law, u-law, and GSM6.10. A Midi client API and a codec API are also integrated.
  • a camera API (image and video capture). The existing API will still be supported through a wrapper.
  • the graphic subsystem will support scalable fonts, anti-aliasing, bitmap rotation and scaling, 2D Hardware acceleration support
  • an image conversion library with support of JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP, WBM, MBM, TIFF, SMS, WMF and ICO. An API for 3rd party plug-ins is available.

-  a SyncMLData Sync client compatible with SyncML DS 1.01 specification

-  support for Symbian OS7 multimode packet telephony API (which replace the GSM, Advanced GSM and GPRS of OS 6.1). This also adds compatibility with CDMA (IS-95) service. A new API is available for client that needs to answer and receive calls.

-  a feature managerthat will allow a client app to know which hardware / feature is available on the phone it is running on

-  new Installer that can deals with both Midlet and SIS files.

-  Skin support

-  bi-directionnal text and Arabic and Hebrew languages support

-  several new applications: Media player with video support, Media gallery, Connection monitor, Wallet, File manager.

-  MIDP2.0 support. This adds several new API for games (sprite, layers, sound), HTTPS support, better UI customisation, push support.

The application that are only compatible with Series 60 v2 shall use the new Series 60 platform v2 UID (0x101f7960) while application compatible with both release shall use the existing platform UID.

Both Visual C++ IDE and Metrowerks IDE will be supported (and probably Borland also).

Does 6600 Supports FileConnection API. I tried the System property Method but it returned null which means that it does not supports it. I have checked the File Connection PDF provided by the Nokia Forum and it states that series 60 Mobile Phones supports this optional Package. Or is there sum other way to enable that optional package in 6600.
