Elements Interactive Releases Edge SDK 2.80 Adding Improved Support for Unicode and UIQ 3.0

Almere, the Netherlands -- September 6th, 2006 -- Elements Interactive B.V. releases version 2.80 of its multi-platform mobile game engine Edge. This new version adds improved support for Unicode and UIQ 3.0 phones.

The improved Unicode support covers the addition of new overloaded functions using a WCHAR parameter for functions accepting strings as parameters, such as DrawFont.

Thanks to Elements Interactive's network of device testers Edge 2.80 brings a few improvements of the Symbian 9.1 builds. The improved UIQ 3.0 support brings Edge to actual devices running Symbian 9.1 UIQ 3.0, besides of just the emulator. Another enhancement of Symbian 9.1 support includes the better support of minimizing applications on a phonecall on Series 60 third edition devices.

The new Edge release also features a new version of the Edge IDE building tool fixing the Symbian 9.1 platforms, adding icon resource support and adding support for Symbian Series 80, Series 90 and Windows Mobile 2003 for Smartphone and Pocket PC.

Other improvements of Edge SDK 2.80 include support of loading 4-bit and monochrome BMP bitmaps, the addition of several new recognized Symbian device id's, speedups for the BMP, GIF and PNG image loaders, a minor bugfix in the alpha processing of paletted PNG images and other enhancements and bugfixes. An evaluation version can be downloaded for free. Edge licensees are entitled to download and install the commercial version of the new Edge SDK.

The Edge SDK supports the development of mobile applications and games for Windows Mobile Pocket PC, Windows Mobile Smartphone, Symbian Series 60, Series 80, Series 90, Symbian UIQ, the Gamepark Holdings GP2X console and Windows desktop. Key features include true multi-platform development, high-performance graphics, RGBA surfaces and PNG support for all platforms, 3D graphics, both Bluetooth and TCP/IP networking and support for Symbian 9.1, Windows Mobile 5.0 and DirectX.
